NOVEMBER 2005

Hebrides Ensemble Scottish Arts Council Tune Up Tour
Quartet for the End of Time

"Quartet for the End of Time" flyer

Hebrides Ensemble performs masterpieces by Debussy and Messiaen alongside recent commissions. Marina Adamia’s "Penumbra" explores through sound the shadowland between light and shade. Haflidi Hallgrimsson draws inspiration from a visit to the Anne Frank house for "Notes from a Diary"; this is a Hebrides Ensemble co-commission and these will be the first UK performances. The "Quartet for the End of Time", composed while Messiaen was held in a POW camp, is the most ethereally beautiful music of the Twentieth Century.
